Tired Semi-Truck Drivers Cause Crashes with Injuries

Posted on July 03, 2019 in Truck Accidents

Waukegan Semi-Truck Accident Attorney

A tired driver is not a safe driver. Lack of rest makes drivers less attentive and slows reaction time. A tired semi-truck driver can be especially dangerous for anyone in their path simply because a fully loaded tractor-trailer weighs 10 to 15 times more than the average passenger car and requires significantly more stopping time and distance.

When a fatigued truck driver fails to reduce speed in time to avoid a collision, serious injuries or death can result. These semi-truck accidents often make headlines because of their severity. Here are some semi- truck crash headlines from the Chicago area and around Illinois just for the month of June.

9 Hospitalized After Semi-Truck Crash on I-90

Slow traffic near O’Hare Airport is fairly common but caught one semi-truck driver unawares at 12:30 am on a Sunday. Failing to realize that cars ahead were stopped in traffic, the semi failed to reduce speed to avoid a collision, rear-ending one car and setting off a chain reaction that involved four additional vehicles. Nine people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Man Killed in Crash with Semi on I-90

A Friday morning traffic jam is usually just a short-term annoyance for commuters, but it proved deadly for one man. A semi driver failed to recognize and react in time to the slow-down, striking a Jeep which struck a Chevy which struck a Nissan. The Jeep driver was killed by blunt force trauma.

SUV Driver Dies in Crash with Cement Truck

Semi-trucks are not the only trucks that can be deadly in a highway collision. Dump trucks carrying loads of gravel, cement trucks, snowplows, and garbage trucks can also cause fatal accidents. A report from northwestern Illinois tells us that an SUV was struck by a cement truck at mid-day on a June Thursday. The SUV driver was killed.
