Four-car accident on the Southwest Side leaves one dead

Posted on December 00, 0000 in Car Accidents

Speed limits are in place for a reason. People often forget that when they are driving and trying to get somewhere quickly. Going over the speed limit all of a sudden doesn&t seem like a big deal. But tell that to the victims of a recent serious car accident in Chicago.

Five people were injured and one person died following a four-car accident in the city. The accident occurred on the Southwest Side on South Cicero Avenue just before 1 a.m.

According to police, the car that caused the accident was speeding when it hit a pedestrian. The vehicle then proceeded to hit three other cars. One of the drivers of the three cars was killed as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner&s office. Authorities did not immediately release information on the deceased&s age or gender.

Five other people were transported to nearby hospital. They all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Thankfully, police apprehended the driver that caused the car crash. The driver is in custody at a local hospital.

The circumstances of this accident make it fairly certain that the speeding driver is to blame for the death and injuries of the victims involved. Although it isn&t yet known why the driver was speeding, the injured parties will be able to bring a claim against the driver regardless. Such a claim can help those injured pay for their hospital bills and compensate them for any time away from work. Sadly, the deceased victim will not have this opportunity but his or her family or estate can bring a wrongful death claim against the driver. Compensation in that instance can also be used to pay for medical bills, if any, as well as the emotional toll on the family.
